CAFO Rules & Laws

CAFO regulation in Idaho is an often confusing mix of federal, state, and local level authorities. To make matters worse, the state has decided that not all factory farms are created equal, resulting in different sets of laws, standards, and enforcement agencies for beef, dairy, swine and poultry CAFOs. In an effort to alleviate some of that confusion, we’ve done our best to clarify who is responsible for what throughout the planning, operation, and afterlife of the state’s animal factories.
